Cursive Handwriting Debate Prep
As a group prepare the strongest leads, points, counterarguments, and closing.
Complete affirmative/negative packets (add sheet for a persuasive closing with blank lines for additional main points based on counterarguments to the opposition).
Four parts to writing a persuasive conclusion
- Restate your point of view
- Summarize your main points (reminder of your reasons)
- Give a glimpse to the future - what it's like if they agree
- End with a statement that will make the listener think)

In persuasive writing, students move an audience to action or to convince an audience to adopt your viewpoint. The strategy is to present information and opinions on one side of an issue by developing a strong connection with a target audience.
In argument writing, students inform an audience that your viewpoint deserves consideration. The strategy is to present information on both sides of an issue by favoring one side and casting reasonable doubt about the merits of the other side.
