In narrative writing, students tell a story.  The story may be fiction or non-fiction (i.e. personal narrative or memoirs).  Narrative writing spans time, has a plot, and is typically written in chronological order.

Tasks:

    1.  As a group, develop a narrative writing lesson plan (include a strategy & anchor chart)
    2. Use the questions below to discuss chapter 6 from the CAFE Book
    3. Peer-review Topic 1 - use peer-review checklist and include in binder

Chapter 6: Whole-Class Instruction

  • Whole group CAFE lessons are driven by assessments, one-on-one conferring, and small-group observations (p.89). The goal is to plan whole-group lessons around skills and strategies that a majority of our students need assistance with. What strategies do you think will be most beneficial for whole-group instruction in your classroom?
  • Review the whole-class lesson elements (p.95-97). How does this compare with the way you have taught whole-group lessons? How can you integrate these elements into your future teaching practice?
