We're beginning our last full day before Tuesday's flight home. We arrived in Neuendettelsau Saturday evening, after a powerful time spent earlier in the day at Concentration Camp Buchenwald. Yesterday we attended worship in the morning, and then in the afternoon met with Dr. Horst Becker, former mission director and recipient (in 2003?) of an honorary degree from Wartburg College, who told us about Loehe's history and the history of mission, and showed us through the Loehe Zeit (Loehe's Times) museum. Part of the group also spent the evening at the Beckers.
Today we meet one of the deaconesses, who will talk about the history of diaconal service that Loehe inspired, and we will tour some of the social ministry sites here.
